Downing Estate Reserve Shiraz 2008

2008 was an outstanding vintage in Heathcote, and this Reserve Shiraz was produced from grapes selected from one particular section on the western side of the vineyard, which consistently produces grapes with intense flavour and colour.
It is a medium to full bodied wine with outstanding depth, complexity and structure. On the palate it offers great intensity and concentration of varietal flavour, balanced by a finely integrated oak character from 22 months maturation in new French oak barriques.
Only 190 dozen bottles were produced. 14.5% Alcohol by Volume.

Colour: Deep Crimson Red

Nose: Aromas of mulberries and cherries, with milky vanillin chocolate.

Palate: A mouthful of big, rich and full flavours, chocolate cherry ripe, silky smooth tannin and a lovely lingering plummy sweetness, all nicely balanced by white pepper from new French Oak barriques. Outstanding length on the finish.

Cellaring: While drinking well now, this wine will continue to evolve in the bottle for at least another 15-20 years.

Halliday's Rating: Rated 95/100 by James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2013 -Drink by 2030.
