This Bress Heathcote Shiraz was bottled using a Screw Cap closure. Using a Screw Cap closure is our attempt to ensure that our wine is presented free of cork characters (good or bad) and that the full aroma and flavour of this wine is expressed.

This wine should be decanted prior to serving.

The wine is tightly packed full of black fruit, spice, cloves, and plum. The oak characters are beautifully integrated into the wine, giving the wine structure and adding power, balance and a savoury richness.

Whilst enjoyable now, this wine will reward careful cellaring for up to 6 years.

Lifted aromas of black cherries and dark plums, with licorice and sweet mint. The Palate has a ripe, varietal feel - sweet mint, cherries, cola and licorice. The wine finishes long and silky.

Produced in the French beaujolais style, with a focus on fragrance, freshness and drinkability. This is a light juicy, easy to drink wine. No noticeable oak, ripe tannins, sound fresh berry, dried herb and a touch of spice. It has nice length and finish, and is ready to drink right now.

Although both this and Syrah No 2 come from the same, 3.3 hectare vineyard (dubbed the "Clos Graillot"), the Graillot Syrah tends to come from the top of the block while the Syrah No 2 typically comes from the fruit further down the slope. Ultimately however, both of these wines result from a barrel selection and for the Graillot we are aiming to produce the most pure, perfumed, elegant yet intense wine possible; a wine of great finesse and yet with excellent aging potential.

Noble Red Shiraz displays earthy, black fruit aromas with a hint of pepper. The palate is full bodied with generous fruit structure and nice firm tannins which lead to a lingering finish. This wine has long cellaring potential but can also be enjoyed now.

Our flagship wine lines up all our big guns to fire a salute to our winemaking ancestor. Chosen from the best shiraz barrels of the vintage, this wine spends two years in the best French oak to add further depths of intrigue. Centred around rich plum characters, sweetly perfumed, corseted by sophisticated aniseed and coffee aromas, the wine has an intense, layered palate strengthened by spice, earthiness and velvet tannins. Aglow in the glass, a table by the fire, waiting slow cooked beef.

This wine distils the essence of our Heathcote terroir, letting the vine suck the goodness from ancient, red soils and get its delicious fruit into the bottle with the minimum of stress. It was the driest winter and spring in our memory, restricting vine development and forcing it to squeeze all its flavour into a small crop, ending with great vintage conditions. Splash some into a glass alongside a dish of lamb shanks to discover the layered ripe flavours, black fruit aromas and robust structure - a winter wonderland.

Prior to deciding which wines will ultimately be made each vintage, Duck and Liam analyze their fruity concoctions so as to make the best Springflat Shiraz possible.

The uniqueness of this wine results from parcels of fruit being sourced from eight other sites across the Heathcote region, stretching from Colbinnabbin to Mia Mia.

These vineyards are living in various soil types ranging from the rich ‘cambrian’ volcanic soils of the north, to the dense, acidic, granite and quartz-laden clays of the south. This allows the Springflat Shiraz to express a rainbow of richness for which the Heathcote region is famous.

The Springflat Shiraz is a Wild Duck Creek Estate flagship, representing exceptional value.

Yellow Hammer Hill was the collective vision of Duck and some long-time friends and fellow ‘agricultural drinkers’. The Yellow Hammer Hill block is situated near our oldest vineyard, the Alan’s Cabernet Vineyard. The first vines were planted in 1996, after ‘Effa’ the Fordson Major tractor, had cleared the land of Chinese heath some months earlier.

Shiraz and Malbec were chosen as the varieties of choice due to their wonderful complimentary characteristics. The fruit-driven fullness of Shiraz and floral notes and wonderful texture of Malbec, lend themselves to a wine that is delightful when consumed in early years, and develops into a brooding complexity of spice and fruit after cellaring.
