The grapes for this Signature Label were grown on the Ellis family vineyard situated on the ancient red Cambrian soils of the Colbinabbin range within the Heathcote wine growing region. This Viognier displays vibrant fruit aromas of apricot and spiciness carrying to a crisp, lingering palate. Forty percent of this wine was partially barrel fermented and matured in French oak barrels for 5 months adding to the aroma and texture of the palate. A wine that can be enjoyed by itself or with mildly spiced foods, it will improve with up to five years cellaring.
The traditional and original expression of our Sangiovese is treated with a stay in mature French oak and held back for a further 6 months longer than the Nuovo. Exactly the same winemaking process has taken place to that of the unoaked expression and although the wines have similarities they have developed their own personalities.
This wine is inspired by the young gluggable wines from the Rioja region in north-eastern Spain. It is a blend of Tempranillo (juicy blackberry spiciness), Grenache (earthy raspberry), and Mourvedre (brooding dark berries).
The first release of the Heathcote Shiraz comes from the 2012 vintage. The wine shows a typical deep red hue that you would expect from the region, however the palate delivers something a little more unexpected. It shows a medium weight with a surprising softness, elegance and spice. The use of French and American oak gives some vanillan characters to the dark fruit flavor of the wine.
Winning a gold medal in the Heathcote Wine Show and Best Red Wine in Show at the Kyneton Wine Show, this surely is a new release that won't disappoint.
