Salmon-pink colour, the spicy notes to the fruit, and the mouthfeel suggest barrel fermentation, but none has in fact been used; the technique has worked well to present a rose with good flavour, good balance and good attitude.

This is an approachable wine with its seductive mix of smokey, savoury, earthy, gamey, graphite elements mixed with juicy red and black fruit flavours. It is fresh, creamy and smooth on the palate with intensity, balance and texture. The fine tannin is in balance and carries the complex, mineral, earthy flavours very well. These wines have been maturing very well and we are seeing improvement over five to seven years where increases in textural interest and complexity develop whilst fruit definition and freshness remain. Ideally cellar for a couple of years and drink over the next five or so.

Nero D’Avola hails from the hot, sunny and dry vineyards of Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean where they create wines that have inspired our winemaker, Glenn James-Pritchard.

The ancient, red, rocky, volcanic soils in the driest, most northern part of Heathcote form the perfect site for Australia’s introduction to Nero D’Avola.

“Glenn James is a crafty winemaker…Here Nero D’Avola appears brightly flavoured, lighter form with amaro herb spice and cranberry acidity. It’s delicious, vibrant drinking personified.”

The GSM is a blend of Harcourt Valley fruit (Shiraz and Malbec) and Grenache from a vineyard in Heathcote.
This wine is fruity, light and well balanced. It has interesting aromas of cherry and black berry. This wine was not matured in oak, so while it is not complex it is packed full of flavour including mixed lollies and berry fruit. It has a savoury finish that keeps you coming back for more.

Deep crimson with purple hues, this wine shows plum and blackberry aromatics with a slight mocha background. A rich and concentrated flavour profile with traditional Heathcote plum and spice characters. The wine is aged in new and used American barrique barrels for 12 months prior to bottling and this allows the tannins to refine giving a silky finish with subtle toasty oak flavours.

Crimson-purple; a very pure and stylish example of cool-grown cabernet sauvignon picked at precisely the right moment; the bouquet and palate have pristine blackcurrant and redcurrant fruit, the palate with almost silky, and certainly very fine, tannins; medium-bodied at best, but with all of the ingredients for a long life.

The silver lining to the cloud of the 2011 wet vintage is the lovely cool climate characters developed in the Progeny Shiraz. It took a frantic effort on the vineyard battle front to tame the rampant growth and pesky moulds, but the fruit blossomed in the winery showing more adult and sophisticated hints of black pepper … Read More
