2008 was an outstanding vintage in Heathcote, and this Reserve Shiraz was produced from grapes selected from one particular section on the western side of the vineyard, which consistently produces grapes with intense flavour and colour.
Inky, deep purple with purple to garnet hue. Rich, sweet spicy plum pudding and brady, with soft cedar and dark chocolate overtones. Intense dark plum fruit, brandy and spicy vanilla bean with hints of cedary oak. This vintage port-style shiraz exhibits a full palate with a long persistent finish
The Shiraz is an individual vineyard wine made from the original vineyard, now 40 years old, planted in 1971. It is dense, rich and concentrated, with complex savoury secondary characters overlying the sweet plummy Shiraz fruit. Partial barrel fermentation in new French oak barriques and extended maceration on skins of the remaining must, builds depth and texture. This helps balance the power and natural ripeness of the dry grown Heathcote Shiraz, resulting in a multi layered, rich and powerful palate, but still with elegant fine grained tannin structure and length.
Rich and textural, with the spice being nicely offset by ripe and juicy dark fruits. The oak and tannins are both really well integrated, and with a few years of age now the wine is really drinking beautifully.
